Patient FAQs

How do I know when it's time to come in for a checkup?

On average, a healthy adult person typically benefits from a professional cleaning and check up every six months. While twice daily brushing and daily flossing go a long way towards maintaining a healthy mouth, it is wise to check for plaque that has hardened into tartar, requiring professional cleaning to avoid gingivitis.

At what age should my children first see a dentist?

Believe it or not, children should have their first dental visit about six months after their primary teeth have erupted, or generally around their first birthday. First of all, this provides the dental professional an opportunity to spot and prevent any potential oral health/dental problems. It also gives the child a positive, non-threatening dental office experience.

Do you accept referrals?

We are happy to accept referrals from other dental offices as well as from recommendations by our patients to their family and friends. Your referrals are our best compliments!

Do you accept my insurance plan?

Our office accepts nearly all of the major insurance plans. Also, we’re well-versed in the latest coverage trends, and are more than happy to discuss the particulars of your plan with you prior to any treatments you may undergo.

“Westwood Dental Group has a plan for everyone. Check out our Price Choppers page and get the help you deserve. ”

Will I be charged if I need to cancel an appointment?

We make every effort to accommodate you by making appointment times to fit your schedule. However, we wish that you respect Westwood Dental Group’s doctors and staff by keeping your appointments. Last minute cancellations or rescheduling of appointments causes hardships for all of us and we believe that an appointment is a commitment.

What do I do if I have an emergency when the office is closed?

In case of a true dental emergency, if you are a patient of record, please call any of our FIVE LOCATIONS and ask for immediate assistance. Your call will be returned as soon as possible.

I have a temporary crown in my mouth. What happens if it comes off or breaks?

If your temporary crown comes off or breaks, carefully wrap up the piece(s), place it into a protective container, and call our office to schedule an appointment to re-apply it as soon as possible. If the temporary crown is intact, place a little vaseline onto the temporary and gently bite back into position. This will often hold the temporary in place until you can get back into our office.

How can I safely whiten my teeth?

There are a number of procedures available to help whiten your smile, from at-home bleaching to in-office supervised treatments with proven effectiveness on thousands of smiles, reversing the effects of aging, coffee, tobacco and other stains.

What makes you different than any other dental practice I can visit?

When you become a patient of our practice, we think of you as a person, not just another set of teeth to fix and clean. Our goal is to help you obtain and then maintain the best possible oral health. So, we take time to understand your dental history and evaluate the best options for your particular dental needs. Plus, we help you understand the whys and wherefores of preventive care through thorough patient education.
